CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (CDP)

Henrico Fire sworn members may pursue various Career Development Paths (CDP), including rank advancement, officer candidacy, and specialty schools + academies.

Recruit Academy: 9 months | Recruits graduate as either FF1 or FF2 with EMT-B certification

Post-Academy | Ranked as an Entry Level Firefighter (FF II) & will complete 2-year probationary period

Fire Marshal’s Office | Qualifying sworn personnel may pursue placement with the Henrico Fire Marshal’s Office

Cadres | Qualifying sworn personnel may pursue placement with specialty cadres or administrative support teams, such as firefighter recruitment & public education

Specialty Teams | Qualifying sworn personnel may pursue placement with specialty teams, such as marine units, air utility, Technical Rescue Team (TRT), Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Support Team, Robotics Response Team, and the Hazardous Incident Team (HAZMAT)

Henrico Fire Specialty Teams.

HAZMAT

The Hazardous Incident (HIT) team was founded in 1981 and in 1987 partnered with Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). Today, HAZMAT responds to calls throughout Central Virginia ranging from auto accidents to illegal drug labs.

INCIDENT SUPPORT TEAM

The Incident Support Team (IST) provides logistical support to specialty teams and in support of preplanned events and significant emergency incidents.

ROBOTICS RESPONSE

Since 2018, Henrico Robotics Response Team has employed small, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) during search and rescue missions, hazardous incidents, wildfires, commercial and high-rise fires, and natural disasters.

SEARCH + RESCUE + DIVE

The Search, Rescue and Dive Team (SRT) has more than thirty members who are qualified in ground search, swift water rescue, and dive rescue.

TECHNICAL RESCUE

Henrico Fire’s Technical Rescue Team (TRT) responds to unusual rescue situations, including but not limited to: collapsed structures; confined spaces, high- and low-angle rope rescue, and heavy equipment extrication.
